Wakefield-Marenisco School District

Can you believe that summer is nearing the end?  We’ll be back in school before we know it.  Fall sports practices will begin the first full week in August:  football starting on Monday, August 7, cross country and volleyball on Wednesday, August 9th

The Wakefield-Marenisco School District is happy to welcome several new personnel to our staff:

Food Service Supervisor/Head Cook:   Suzette Fetters

                    6th grade teacher:                                Connor Drier

                    7-12 Science teacher:                          Kari Seifert

Parents and students, you’ll have the chance to meet our new staff as well as check in with our veteran staff at the annual Home and School Partnership Night on Wednesday, August 30 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.  All of our teachers will be available to meet with parents, student and community members.  The Community School Supply group will have a table with free supplies for anyone interested.  The Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District will also be present to talk about ISD programs for our students, including the Great Starts Collaborative, Special Education Services and Career and Technical Education programs.  Please mark your calendars and join us.

As the new school year begins, W-M will be closer to our goal of one-to-one devices for all students.  Each student in grades K – 6 will have access to an iPad or chrome book in his/her classroom.  Additionally, the district has a chrome lab of 30 computers and a chrome cart with another 37 computers available for junior and senior high students.  The district would like to thank the W-M PTO and Read-a-Thon fundraiser for their assistance in purchasing the devices.

The supply / wish list for the upcoming school year is below.  If you no longer have students in the district but miss the “school shopping” days, please feel free to donate any of the items on the list.  We appreciate the support of our communities and thank you in advance for your generosity.

Please keep an eye out for Bus #19—the newest bus in our fleet.  As we begin 2017-18, we have three new buses and plans to purchase the 4th within the next year.  Again, we thank our communities for demonstrating your confidence in our district with your tax support.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; and third, common sense. --Thomas Jefferson
